From its inception, the firm has been involved in the design of contemporary single family residential projects, both new and renovative, for clients in the New England States and elsewhere in the country. Many of the projects have received local, regional, and national design awards, and have been published internationally.
In the work, traditional forms are used in a fresh manner. Steeply gabled wood frames, clapboard siding, wood shingles, and corner boards consciously recall the design of the vernacular houses of New England. Fenestration patterns are expressive of the space usage within; large openings are concentrated in shared areas and smaller openings are reserved for more private spaces. Views, solar orientation, privacy concerns, and functionality dictate the planning concepts.
In addition to architectural design, Solomon+Bauer+Giambastiani has often provided interior design services for its residential clients.
